چکیده

I& ABSTRACT (Mnu/vm 290 word) As outlined in the original proposal our work deals with NMR and laser Raman scattering experiments on highly viscous liquids, including lubricants, both in bulk and confined geometries, over a wide range of pressures and temperatures. In a general sense we focus on the relationship between molecular level properties as obtained from our experiments and the macroscopic properties of the fluid studied, including fluids at the fluid-solid interface. As continuation of our systematic efforts to improve the understanding of the dynamic behavior of confined fluids we carried out NMR relaxation experiments on a number of molecular fluids including model lubricants. Of particular interest are the unique experiments dealing with pressure effects on confined liquids. As far as the development of new instrumentation is concerned we designed and fabricated NMR probes and pressure generating systems which allow measurements up to lOkbar pressures. Surface Degradation of Polymer Matrix Composites Under Different Low Thermal Cycling Conditions

The principal effects of mass degradation on polymer matrix composites (PMCs) are the decay of mechanical properties such as strength, elongation, and resilience. This degradation is a common problem of the PMCs under thermal cycling conditions. In this article, composite degradation was investigated by measurement of total mass loss (TML) using the Taguchi approach. Thermal cycling tests were ...

Biodegradation of polyurethane under fatigue loading.

A method utilizing expansion of a diaphragm-type film specimen was developed to study in vitro biodegradation of poly(etherurethane urea) (PEUU) under conditions of dynamic loading (fatigue). A finite element model was used to describe the strain state, which ranged from uniaxial at the edges of the film to balanced biaxial tensile strain at the center. During testing, the film was exposed to a...

Fracture Mechanics Based Fatigue Life Analysis of Rc Bridge Slab Repair by Fiber Cementitious Materials

In this thesis, an analytical tool for predicting fatigue performances of RC bridge slabs isdeveloped based on the concept of fracture mechanics. The degradation of bridging stress in thenormal direction of concrete cracks is considered as a primary mechanism for the propagation ofboth flexural cracks and shear cracks that induce the failure of RC slabs. The analysis of RC slabs...

AN INVESTIGATION ON FATIGUE AND FATIGUE CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF Cr-Si SPRING STEEL AFTER Zn-Ni ELECTROPLATING USING WEIBULL STATISTICAL MODEL

Compression springs were prepared from Cr-Si high strength spring steel and coated with pure Zn and ZnNi by electroplating process. The effect of baking after electroplating as well as applying an electroless nickel interlayer on the fatigue and fatigue corrosion of the springs was investigated. The results were analyzed using weibull statistical model. A considerable improvement (8%) in fati...
